Birthday Angels is tallying up the number of parties held this year as the school year comes to a close. Of all the organizations involved in the project, Perach volunteers have given the most parties to children so far., More Perach volunteers from Ben Gurion University of the Negev have given parties than all the other regions.
The reason for this is simple. Lior Levine!
As the coordinator of the Perach Recreation Center at Ben Gurion University in the Negev, Lior Levine jumped right into the project three years ago. She felt it was urgent to involve as many students in her region to be a part of the Birthday Angels Birthday Party Project. She accomplished this by talking about it to every single student she worked with.
As a result over 250 Perach student mentors have celebrated their child's birthday with a party! She ran more parties than any other single branch of Perach around the country.
Her enthusiasm rubs off on the students and has brought great joy into the lives of Jewish, Bedouine, Arab, Russian and Ethiopian children who never would have been able to celebrate their birthday before.
Lior created a computerized system for dispensing the kits which was later adopted by all the Perach regions. This system simplifies the process of handling the kits and gathering the Thank You cards back from the students after the parties.
Lior does this because she sees how the parties have affected the children and how facilitating the parties has empowered the students and strengthened their bonds with their children.
Lior has also been working as a volunteere with all the organizations in the Southern Region, outside of Perach. This has brought to the widening of the Circle of Giving to include children in the care of other social welfare organizations working with needy children in the South.
Through her efforts the children of the South of Israel will know more joy than ever before.
