Vancouver kids coloring the Mandala at the Cyber Party
For years I have wanted to create an event that would enable the kids from Israel and from over the ocean to celebrate a Birthday Angels Birthday Party together. Somehow, the Israeli children have only a vague sense of the concern their American and Canadian Angels have for them.
I also wanted the Diaspora kids to see a group of Israeli children
LIVE so they could see how much they enjoy these parties.
To pull off this kind of event you need partners. I have been INCREDIBLY fortunate in that respect. I turned to
Dalia Ratzon, the National Educational Coordinator of the
AMEN teenage volunteer program sponsored by the Joint. This woman is one of the most efficient, inspired and capable woman I have ever met or had the privilege to work with. Dalia chose a 9 year old girl from the Morasha neighborhood of
Ramat Hasharon who would be able to benefit from a Birthday Angels Party.
Lior Levine (July Angel of the Month) volunteered to facilitate the party.
Anne Andrew (November Angel of the Month) orchestrated the technical set up with the help of
Al Simmons from
Temple Sholom of
Vancouver. She also invited people from the Vancouver Jewish Community to participate in the event.
Alon Zaibert, a local Angel with wings that large enough to spread across the ocean, set up the technical works for the event and ran them without a glitch.
Amazingly enough, we managed to pull it off! On November 11th the kids in Vancouver made a huge mandala card from the Magic Circle Party Kit for Noah in Ramat Hasharon. They held it up to the camera and sang YOM HULEDET SAMEACH to her. They all waved to each other and enjoyed the here-and-now thrill of celebrating a Birthday Angels Birthday Party together.
The communication might have been virtual but the joy was very very real!
